Tooth Extractions: What Are They and Why Are They Necessary?

Visiting any dentist in Las Vegas and hearing the words tooth extractions can cause many people to run in fear mostly because the dental procedure implies pain. However, with modern technology and the use of sedation dentistry, the procedure is more uncomfortable than painful. So don’t fret if you need an emergency Dentist in Las Vegas. A tooth extraction, is a type of dentistry in which a tooth is removed from its socket, may be required for a variety of reasons, however at Hi Tech Dental Care our dentists will only recommend extraction as a last resort.

How Are Tooth Extractions Done?

At Hi Tech Dental Care we will first try to repair your tooth with a crown, filling or other treatment. If you have teeth that have been damaged by severe decay or broken, sometimes there is too much damage for the tooth to be repaired with traditional dentistry and it needs to be removed. If you have a very loose tooth as a result of poor oral health or an injury, it may also require a tooth extraction.

Tooth Extractions in Children

There is a range of oral health problems children may face, but one of the most common reasons for a tooth extraction in children is to make room for a permanent tooth. If during your child’s exam at High Tech Dental Care the appearance of your child’s tooth looks as though it is shifting or moving, it may be the result of a permanent tooth trying to grow in while the baby tooth is still in place. The baby tooth may need to be extracted. If the tooth is not extracted, the new tooth may not align correctly with the other teeth. This can cause problems with dental structure and the need for braces. At Hi Tech Dental Care we also offer sedation dentistry to children to help them with the tooth extraction experience.

Types of Extractions

There are two types of dental tooth extractions; a simple extraction or a surgical extraction. A simple extraction is done on a tooth that can be seen in the mouth. If the appearance of the tooth shows damage or can be moved, a general dentist can do a simple extraction. Our Hi Tech Dental Care dentist in Las Vegas may recommend a surgical extraction if the tooth has broken off at the gum or if it has not yet come into the mouth.

It is important to keep in mind that a tooth extraction may be scary, but if it is recommended, it is usually done so as a way to prevent more serious damage. If you are concerned about the appearance of your smile following an extraction, there are a few options available that will allow you to replace the missing tooth.
